It may have been a slow start for the UCSB women’s field hockey program, but the team finally came together for a pair of wins over the weekend.

Saturday the Gauchos took advantage of a shorthanded UCLA team with a 2-1 victory, then followed it up with a dominant 3-1 win over UC Irvine on Sunday, improving their record to 4-3.

Despite the victory over UCLA on Saturday, Head Coach Erin Morales was not happy with the intensity level and demanded the team pick it up for Sunday’s game. They responded with an aggressive effort Sunday, outplaying and out-hustling UCI in all facets of the game.

“This was our first game we actually worked together and used our skills,” freshman midfielder Meghan Marr said after the win on Sunday.
Marr was instrumental in the victory, scoring two key goals in the second half.

After the game, there was no doubt the coach was pleased with the effort.
“This is our first game where we finally looked like a complete team; we all played together as a team for the first time,” Morales said. “Two wins back-to-back is really going to push us ahead, and I think this will make us all become a lot more confident and ready to go through the rest of the season.”
