More than 60 students pledged to donate bone marrow at an on-campus registration drive yesterday, and more will have the chance today.

Lambda Phi Epsilon fraternity will be in front of the UCen from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. as part of the Asians for Marrow Matches bone marrow drive. The drive aims to match mostly minority donors and recipients, but will accept a limited number of non-minority donors. Donors are asked fill out an information packet and provide a few drops of blood at the tables.

Ben Lee of Lambda Phi Epsilon said the event began in 1997 after a fraternity brother at Stanford died of aplastic anemia.

“Before he died, he went to all the different donor programs, but he couldn’t find a match,” Lee said. “That’s why we do this.”

Lee said the fraternity registered more than 70 donors when they held the event in fall, and registered 61 yesterday.
