The #11 UCSB women’s water polo team will play #14 UC Davis for its third Mountain Pacific Sports Federation league game today at 4 p.m. at Campus Pool.

The Gauchos enter the match with an overall record of 6-4, while Davis is 9-3 overall. Impartial to the results of the game, the Aggies will return Saturday to compete in UCSB’s annual invitational tournament.

All day both Saturday and Sunday, UCSB will host 14 other MPSF teams. Among the teams playing will be USC, UCLA, Stanford and Cal.

“This will be a really good tournament. We are expecting really tough competition from all the teams,” UCSB Head Coach Danielle Altman said.

Last year, UCLA took home first place in the tournament. UCSB placed 13th, which will not be good enough for this year’s effort, according to Altman.

“We want to finish with a solid place in the top eight,” Altman said.

The Gaucho women have been working hard and are expecting their hard work to pay off.

“The team is so excited to play this weekend,” junior utility Katy Kunkel said. “It will be a good opportunity to take what we’ve learned and practiced and apply it.”

The Gauchos will open the tournament in a match against #10 University of Hawaii at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Campus Pool.
