A 57-year-old man was hit in the head with a metal carjack stand during a fight Wednesday night.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Dept. responded to a fight on the 3300 block of Wild Oak Road in the Cabada Canyon near Vandenberg Air Force Base. The man said 45-year-old Debra Marie Mangino, a resident of Buellton, assaulted him. The Sheriff’s Dept. did not release the victim’s name.

According to Sgt. Martin Eberling, the victim claimed Mangino asked him for a loan. When the man said no, Mangino allegedly went outside and vandalized the man’s late-model Cadillac, causing extensive damage to the hood. The man went outside and asked Mangino to stop. When she continued damaging the car, the man hit Mangino with a tree branch. Mangino then retaliated by hitting the man with a carjack stand.

Mangino fled the residence and called 9-1-1, saying the man assaulted her. The Sheriff’s Dept.’s investigation supported the man’s claim.

Mangino was arrested for felony vandalism and assault with a deadly weapon. She was booked into the county jail and is being held on $20,000 bail. The man received medical treatment and was released soon after the incident.
