One man was arrested and another remains at large after a robbery and armed struggle in an Isla Vista apartment last Thursday.

At about 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, two men allegedly went to an apartment on Del Playa Drive and robbed the 20-year-old man living there, Lt. Tom McKinny of the I.V. Foot Patrol said. McKinny said one of the suspects allegedly used a handgun to threaten the resident and demanded that he hand over his wallet.

After the victim gave the suspect his wallet, a struggle ensued, during which McKinny said the suspect who was holding the gun allegedly dropped it and then took a samurai sword from the victim’s room. The victim struggled over the sword with his assailants – one of whom was holding on to the sword’s sharp blade – until the two suspects gave up and fled the apartment.

McKinny said police made inquiries at local medical facilities and eventually found a man matching one of the suspects’ description who was receiving treatment for a severe cut on his hand. Guillermo Ancapi, a 24-year-old man from New York, was arrested at the Pacific Oaks Medical Center. The second suspect remains at large.

McKinny declined to release further details about the incident because, he said, the case is still under investigation.
