No injuries were reported in a residential fire that was extinguished Wednesday afternoon north of Los Alamos.

The fire occurred in a 2,500-square foot ranch house on the 3000 block of Highway 135 at approximately 2:45 p.m. The Santa Barbara County Fire Dept. responded with four engines, a water tender and a battalion chief. Fire Dept. spokeswoman Tracy Gouette said the fire burned 15 to 20 percent of the wood-shake roof.

“There was no extension into the attic due to firefighter’s quick extinguishment and also due to three or four layers [of shake on the roof],” Gouette said.

The fire was completely contained by approximately 3:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
