An elevator at Francisco Torres underwent repairs Tuesday after carrying an unusual passenger last week – a Coca-Cola vending machine.

At about 4:15 a.m. on Nov. 17, an unidentified vandal tied metal wire around the feet of the Coke machine on the first floor of FT’s south tower, attached the wire to an object in the elevator, then sent the elevator up to the top floor, FT Resident Director Seth Avakian said. The incident caused an estimated $20,000 in damage.

Avakian said the Coke machine, which was pulled over, was already back in working order.

A desk attendant at FT said the elevator car was “turned the wrong way” after the incident. A resident said that the elevator “vibrated all the way up the building.”

University of California Police are investigating the incident.
