The Santa Barbara County Public Works Dept. will begin road construction in Isla Vista today.
A slurry seal will be applied to Camino del Sur between Del Playa Drive and Abrego Road. Construction will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. “No parking” signs have been posted along Camino del Sur, and cars left in these no-parking zones will be towed.
Motorists traveling through I.V. can expect 10-minute delays due to reduced speed zones, lane closures and possible detours. The county recommends use of alternate routes. Construction will take place two blocks at a time in order to minimize the impact on parking.
The slurry seal is a mixture of oil and sand cured with cement. Gary Gamboa, resident engineer for the Public Works Dept., said the coating helps maintain the roads.
“It basically adds life to the road by about five years,” Gamboa said.
Construction is only scheduled through Friday, Oct. 3, but Gamboa said the recent weather conditions might slow production. A slurry seal was also applied to Pardall Road on Monday.
