In these troubled times for starship earth, it is reassuring to think that our own UCSB is looking out for the future. While it could confine itself to mere education, it is working to solve the problem of overpopulation with an approach that is at once deep and shallow.
It has finally filled the reflecting pool. What is more, UCSB has covered the bottom of the pool with black tiles.
At night, when you gaze on the pool in its filled glory, you can no longer detect the bottom – the pool appears as deep as the ocean.
Come fall, freshmen wandering back from I.V. can gaze upon these depths. And, fueled by wonder and Captain Morgan’s finest rum, they will practice majestic dives.
Summer forecast: Sure, only 5 for technique, but 10 for style.
