UC Santa Barbara is about to experience a revenge of the geeks.

To mark the beginning of their nationwide college tour, cast members of Comedy Central’s television show, “Beat the Geeks,” have chosen UCSB as one of the first schools to host their game show, “The Geeks Live,” on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Campbell Hall.

The show is aired on Comedy Central and features three “geeks,” each of which is an expert in the field of music, television or movies. Six contestants are chosen at random from the audience by the host, Blaine Capatch, to challenge the geeks in a game based on pop culture and satire.

“It’s a funny show,” said A.S. Program Board Lectures Coordinator Wes Nazareth. “They’re witty guys. I’d be intimidated.”

To test the knowledge of the contestants and that of the true geeks, the six contestants are divided into three groups of two and are given a series of questions relating to any one of the three fields of pop culture.

“The game show celebrates the geek love [for] pop culture,” TV Geek Paul Goebel said.

If a team of two contestants makes it to the final round with the most points and beats the geek they have challenged, they will win the grand prize of $500. In addition, DVDs and T-shirts will also be given away as prizes.

Pre-sale, student-priced tickets will be sold for $5 at the A.S. ticket window and are $8 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m.
