The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Corner’s office has determined that UCSB freshman Leo Lydon died of natural causes.

Lydon was found dead in his room on the first floor of San Nicolas residence hall Jan. 7. Toxicology and microscopic tissue examination has revealed that a non-contagious viral infection caused his death. The infection, the Coroner’s office said, is very common and does not usually result in death. In Lydon’s case, the infection caused the muscle tissue around his heart to swell and eventually caused his heart to stop beating. The reports showed no signs of drugs or alcohol in Lydon’s system.
