A Paso Robles man was killed on Highway 101 just south of Cabrillo Boulevard when his car struck a roadside guardrail Monday.

Donald Stanridge, 39, was travelling northbound at approximately 8:03 a.m. Monday when, for unknown reasons, he drifted off the road and struck a steel guardrail. His pickup truck hit the concrete and wood bridge railing on the Cabrillo Blvd. overpass, ejecting him from the vehicle onto Cabrillo Blvd.

According to the California Highway Patrol report, weather conditions were clear and dry and did not contribute to the collision.

An ambulance transported Stanridge to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Highway 101 was closed for approximately 4.5 hours while investigators responded to the scene. The collision is still under investigation.

The CHP reports that the 101 may need long-term traffic control due to repairs on the bridge. The second northbound lane on the 101 will be closed for CalTrans repair until further notice.
