Last week Athletic Director Gary Cunningham hired former four-year member of the UCSB women’s gymnastics team Alanna Trimble as head coach for the final year of the program.

Trimble was on the Santa Barbara squad from 1996-2000. This will be her first experience as a head coach. During her senior campaign in 2000, Trimble competed in four events for the Gauchos. Some of her personal bests at UCSB include a 9.650 on the floor exercise, 9.625 on the balance beam and 9.425 on the vault.

Trimble is excited to begin her first season coaching the Gauchos.

“Everything has come full circle for me,” she said. “My final season is fresh in my memory, so I believe that will help. I still can relate to what they need as gymnasts, and I hope that will be a positive.”

Though the sport will be discontinued after this season, Trimble believes that since her final season was the strongest at UCSB, there can be tremendous room for improvement.

“My last season was my best season,” she said. “And if this is going to be their last year, I hope to make it their best.”
