The UCSB women’s soccer team extended their winning streak to three games yesterday with a 1-0 victory over Northern Arizona.

Santa Barbara did not waste any time, as it scored the lone goal of the match in only the sixth minute of action when freshman forward Stephanie Thayer’s cross found the left foot of junior forward Erica Perrotta. Perrotta’s shot blazed past the outstretched arms of the helpless Lumberjack goalkeeper Katie Maxwell.

Although no other Gaucho player found the back of the net on any other shot attempt, they continued their dominance offensively as they out-shot Northern Arizona 19-13.

Lumberjack Holly Jones presented the only real offensive threat to the Gauchos by unleashing five shots in her attack. But UCSB’s defense was on the ball and the Gauchos were too strong for Jones and the rest of Northern Arizona to overcome. With this win, the Gauchos notched their second straight shutout of the year after also blanking USF on the Dons’ home turf 1-0 on Saturday. Senior goalkeeper Mary Gleason, who was also on the field against USF, recorded her second shutout of the season nailing six saves in a stellar performance in the net.

Though the Gauchos are undefeated on the road, they have yet to taste victory at Harder Stadium this season. With three straight road victories, UCSB will look to keep the ball rolling in front of their home fans on Friday night when they will have the opportunity to extend their winning streak to four games. The women face off against Weber State at 6 p.m. Friday in the first game of the double header at Harder Stadium.
