The Carpinteria Motel 6, located at 4200 Via Real Ave., was robbed Tuesday night.

At approximately 9:17 p.m. a lone male suspect entered the motel and proceeded to the registration desk. When the female night clerk asked the suspect how she could help him, he allegedly jumped over the counter and produced a black or blue steel handgun. The suspect then aimed the firearm at the clerk, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dept., before the clerk backed away and sat on the floor.

The suspect then removed approximately $400 from the registration desk’s cash drawer before fleeing the scene. The suspect and the clerk never spoke to each other during the robbery and the clerk was uninjured.

The clerk immediately reported the robbery to her manager and then called 911. The responding deputies were unable to locate the suspect once they arrived on the scene.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian or light-skinned Hispanic adult male with a thin build and is approximately 6 feet tall.
