Over a million dollars of cocaine was discovered during a routine traffic stop last weekend.

At approximately 10:13 a.m. on Friday, April 27, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad McVay stopped a silver 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan for speeding northbound on Highway 101 at Dos Pueblos Canyon Road.

McVays’s canine partner, Ursus, immediately responded to the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle. McVay conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered 10 kilos of cocaine in the inside backing of the Caravan’s rear seat, in addition to a sizable amount of cash, which has not yet been tabulated, according to the police department.

The two suspects in the car, 35-year-old Juan Beltran from Kings County and Meza Andres Sanchez, who refused to give his age and residence, were arrested and transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail.
