I’m a Fifth-Year Junior

At approximately 1:13 a.m. Thursday, April 5, Isla Vista Foot Patrol officers patrolling the intersection at Camino Pescadero and Sabado Tarde Road observed a 21-year-old female walking southbound on Camino Pescadero with a male subject.

The officers observed the suspect stagger from side to side and stumble into two parked cars. The officers contacted the suspect, who said she lived on El Colegio Road. The suspect was walking in the opposite direction of El Colegio Road.

When asked by the officers if she knew the male subject she was walking with, she said she had met him three years ago when she was a sophomore. The suspect then said she was now a junior. The officers determined the suspect was unable to care for her safety.

The suspect was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail, where she was housed, pending sobriety.

This is IVFP, Not NYPD

At approximately 1:13 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, IVFP officers patrolling the intersection at Camino Pescadero and Sabado Tarde Road observed a 22-year-old male walking southbound on Camino Pescadero with a female subject.

The officers noticed the suspect was maintaining his balance by holding onto a bicycle. Upon contact with the suspect, the officers observed he had bloodshot, watery eyes and his speech was thick and slurred.

As the officers spoke to the suspect, they noticed the toes on his right foot were bleeding. When asked by the officers how he was injured, the suspect said his legs were too long for the bicycle he was riding and his feet scraped along the ground.

The officer then noticed two small bloodstains on the suspect’s right pant leg above the knee. When asked by the officers what happened to his leg, the suspect said the stains were from his bleeding toes.

The suspect was taken into custody at which point he admitted to the officers he had fallen off of his bicycle and “poked” himself with his keys. When the officers asked the suspect if he required medical attention, he said he did not.

The suspect was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the IVFP station. Upon arrival at the IVFP station, the suspect said to the arresting officer, “I’m just going to tell the court that you did this to me so the case will be dropped.” The arresting officer advised the suspect his comments would be documented to prevent any false accusations at a later time.

The other arresting officer on the scene attempted to assist the suspect in getting out of the patrol vehicle. The suspect told the officer he could not get out of the vehicle because he could not put any weight on his injured leg. The suspect also said, “The deputy poked me in the leg while I was on my bicycle.”

The officer advised the suspect that he had witnessed the entire contact between the suspect and the deputy, and the suspect was not on his bicycle at the time of contact and the deputy never struck him. The suspect did not respond to the officer.

The suspect was transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was housed, pending sobriety.

Stop, Drop and Pee

At approximately 12:22 a.m. on Friday, April 6, IVFP officers patrolling the 6600 block of Sabado Tarde Road observed a 23-year-old male lying in the middle of the roadway with one female and two male subjects standing around him asking him to get up.

The officers were unsure if the subjects were joking with one another or if someone needed assistance getting up. As the officers approached the subjects they could hear one of the male subjects saying to the suspect lying on the ground, “come on man, get up.”

As the officers continued walking towards the subjects, they observed the two male subjects help the suspect to his feet. Once the suspect was standing up, he quickly jerked away from the male subjects and began to run down the middle of the street. The suspect ran approximately 10 feet, stumbled and nearly fell to the ground.

The officers contacted the suspect to check on his welfare. The officers noticed the suspect’s zipper was down and the front of his pants was wet. The subjects with the suspect told the officers the suspect was drunk and they were trying to walk him home. The officers told the subjects they appeared to be unable to care for the suspect’s safety because they were unable to prevent him from lying in the middle of Sabado Tarde Road.

The suspect was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the IVFP station. While at the IVFP station, the suspect fell off of the chair in the interview room and onto the floor.

The suspect was transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was housed, pending sobriety.
