A 19-year-old Isla Vista resident was arrested Saturday after allegedly stabbing a UC Santa Barbara student Friday night, the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office reported.

Police arrested Cyrus Rocky McClain on Saturday afternoon after he went to the Isla Vista Foot Patrol station for questioning, according to an Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) press release.

The stabbing of the 24-year-old-female student occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive

in I.V. on Friday. Authorities blocked off the intersection of Del Playa Drive and Camino Del Sur following the incident.

An investigation revealed that the suspect did not know the victim, but had engaged in “an altercation with victim’s boyfriend” earlier in the night when McClain trespassed on the property, according to the release.

The victim was stabbed in the pelvis and transferred to Cottage Hospital shortly after medical personnel arrived at the scene.

The victim is recovering from non life threatening injuries, SBSO spokesperson Kelly Hoover said.

McClain is in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and bodily harm inflicted during the commission of a felony. He is being held on $350,000 bail.

SBSO sheriff’s deputies and UC Police Department officers worked “throughout the night” to locate and identify the suspect, according to the release. Several search warrants were issued in order to locate the suspect.
