Associated Students Senate unanimously passed a resolution calling on the university to reform certain aspects of its sexual assault policy and discussed the status of the association’s Pardall Road space during last Wednesday night’s four-hour meeting.

The resolution encourages various campus organizations to set forth plans to add more resources for victims of sexual assault and modify their definition of sexual consent to guarantee the rights of victims.

Off-Campus Senator Beatrice Contreras, who authored the resolution, said the document’s goal is to make students more aware of the resources guaranteed by Title IX and push the university to correct inconsistencies in its implementation.

“We want to make sure those resources are more available so that people know they exist,” Contreras said.

Collegiate Senator Ali Guthy said the resolution addresses an issue that has received widespread support from the campus community.

“This is a really great resolution and it goes with a lot of what this student body has to say,” Guthy said.

Additionally, Jeanette Lyden, an A.S. staff member hired to staff the new A.S. Pardall Center, reported that progress has been made on installing utilities in the rented property.  Lyden said the Pardall Center has come a long way from its initial disrepair, but the building still needs work.

“We realized that there was a lot that needed to be done … some outlets were wired incorrectly and some weren’t working at all, so we had our electrician come and look the place over and he did a lot of great work. Electrically, the Pardall Center is doing very well,” Jeannette said.

External Vice President of Statewide Affairs Alex Choate outlined plans to host an event called “Weed Wednesday” during the upcoming “Week of Revenue,” in which miniature “purple haze” cupcakes will be handed out to promote legalization of marijuana as a source of funding for higher education.

The meeting was briefly interrupted by a raffle in which nine free tickets to the upcoming A.S. Program Board-hosted Childish Gambino concert were given to Senators.

Other items discussed at the meeting included possible headliners for the Chilla Vista concert later this quarter, a report on the national education budget proposal for 2014 and a bill to establish a new logo for Associated Students.
