Voting has been extended by three days for the Associated Students Spring General Election. Currently voter turnout is at 13.2%, falling short of the 20% necessary for ratification.
The election was intended to run from 8 a.m. on May 5 to 12 p.m. today, but has been prolonged to Monday at 12 p.m.
The ballot includes Associated Students (A.S.) executive and senate candidates, as well as numerous reaffirmations and fee initiatives from campus organizations.
This extension comes after two weeks of election delay following an April 29 Judicial Council decision finding election interference in the Senate. The Elections Board extended the candidacy deadline, originally March 5, to May 2, resulting in three new executive and eight new senate candidates on the official ballot.
A.S. Elections Board Chair and second-year political science major Ruby Hewitt said they aim to announce the results on Monday evening if the voter threshold is met by then.
“Since we did not meet the 20% threshold, we are extending the voting period until Monday at noon. If students have started their ballot, they can pick up where they left off. We are hoping to announce the results of the election Monday evening pending voter turnout,” Hewitt said.
