Police have identified the decedent who was found near the surf line of the Camino Del Sur beach access in Isla Vista.

The decedent, 20-year-old Alessandro Esquivel, was a UC Santa Barbara student, according to the UCSB student directory.

He was going into his sophomore year as a pre-mathematics major.

Esquivel was initially from Downey, California, said Daniel Calderon, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) sergeant.

“It appears he died as a result of injuries sustained from a cliff fall,” said Kelly Hoover, SBSO spokesperson.

The cause and manner of death are pending toxicology and lab results, Hoover said.

His family set up a GoFundMe for funeral costs.
