A 20-year-old UC Santa Barbara student was found dead in the Santa Ynez Mountains Tuesday afternoon, according to UCSB Dean of Student Life Katya Armistead.
Annie Lynn Wang, a second-year psychology major, was located at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the Cold Springs Bridge area, according to a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) statement sent to the Nexus by Armistead.
“The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team searched the area this afternoon and at approximately 2:30 p.m. today, May 22, 2018, they located Annie Wang deceased in Cold Springs Canyon,” the statement read.
Her death is the result of an apparent suicide, according to the statement. Her family has been notified.
She was first reported missing by friends on Monday morning to the UCSB Police Department.
Wang’s friends set up a GoFundMe on Wednesday to help her family with funeral expenses, according to the webpage.
Students who are in need of mental health support can contact Counseling and Psychological Services (C.A.P.S.) at caps.sa.ucsb.edu or 805-893-4411.

oh my god that’s…I don’t even know what to think
Praying for her and her loved ones. This is so devastating
I’m so sorry. My heart goes out to her, her family, her loved ones, and everyone who was affected by her passing. I wish she had known she was loved and appreciated. If anyone out there is feeling like there is no hope, there is. Please use all resources available to you, and know that there are people who support you and love you.
Why is it the most kind-hearted and happiest ones…
The only thing i wanna say is that i really hope everybody can bravely face challenges in life, take care of selves, and talk with friends when you feel terrible. R.I.P
“Apparent suicide”. I do hope the PD does a full investigation. SOMEONE brought her there. Could she have been pushed?
Well I too am concerned about how she got there given that she didn’t have a car apparently, I don’t think it’s possible for her to be pushed because there’s a big suicide barrier that makes jumping a bit harder. I hope there is more investigation that goes into this because there seem to be some facts that are concerning
I hope the police conducted a full investigation before pointing to suicide. It has been less than a day since they found her. No one wants the culprit to escape if there was one. Alas, may her soul rest in peace. I can’t imagine what her family and friends are going through.
Those that posted conspiracy type stuff are not paying respects to the family or the deceased young person . Instead of talking out of turn with little or no facts, let those that have more than a High School Diploma reach a conclusion with the facts. ‘nough said!
i am not any of the people above, but having concern about foul play is not uneducated. i have a master’s degree and the concern about how she got there without a car is valid.
And I too have a masters degree in statistics. They should conduct a full thorough investigation before resorting to “suicide”.
exactly, it is not disrespectful to want a thorough investigation done to ensure that her life was not taken against her will. it is not disrespectful to want there to be justice
Maybe she left a note.
It’s possible she took an uber there.
Maybe Knowitallasshole knows more than they’re letting on and he’s trying to get people off the scent.

This is soon sad, but there needs to be more investigation on the case, specifically to her personal life and what caused her to take her own life. I really hope someone starts a fundraiser so I can donate money to her family and friends since they need to provide a proper funeral for her. She is an individual and deserves to be mentioned and noticed as a lesson to the general public.
Oh look someone with nothing better to do making a insensitive comment about someone they don’t know. I’d be surprised if this wasn’t the internet. Not sure how you even know that she was rich (not everyone who lives in San Diego is btw).
You must live a very sad and pathetic life to have to force your negativity onto others.
horrified. reminds me of the tragedies in my town, portola valley. stephen e. hansen — my sympathies to her family
CAPS is sleeping on the job
keep your disgusting comments off this page plz
She was not in Greek life, she was a member of a national service fraternity. It is NOT greek offiliated. Please be respect, as this is obviously a difficult time for many and if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it. You obviously didn’t know Annie, because she was such a sweet person. This campus lost a beautiful soul, and we all need to be supportive of each other in this time of mourning and healing.
I will say a prayer for her, and her family tonight. I do hope that the Police are “MORE THEN CONFIDENT ” That this was a suicide. Because the very Term rips through a Mother’s heart. If not, it is without question that there very well might have been foul play! Neither of which will help the family though, so please let’s all pray for this poor lost soul, and maybe after, hug a young one in tribute to her Spirit 🙏.
