Escape the Isla Vista Bubble

I’m just back from Scotland and settling into my old routine. I moved about six feet to the apartment next door, applied for my old job and last, but certainly not least, returned to this little opportunity: writing the Escape From I.V. column every Thursday.

Domestic Dysfunction ****

I felt a sense of inevitable déjà vu as I took in Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road.” The film stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as a young married couple attempting to rebuild their broken marriage; though it’s been over a decade now since “Titanic,” the chemistry is still there.

The Sandman Cometh **

Adam Sandler seems an unlikely lead actor for a children’s film, particularly one imbued with elements of magical realism and fairy tale-like fantasy. His crude humor, infantile antics and characteristically slapstick tendencies would render him awkward, unnatural or displaced in such a role.

I Can Has Student Fees?

Am I the only one who picked up a free notebook from A.S. today? By free, I of course mean something I unknowingly paid for months ago via my student fees.

Farr Takes Oath, States Plans

Despite the ongoing legal efforts of opponent Steve Pappas, Doreen Farr was officially sworn in as the new 3rd District Supervisor yesterday.

Big West Preview — Cal State Northridge

After finishing third in the Big West, Cal State Northridge looks to translate their pre-season conference crowning and returning veterans into the success they failed to achieve last year.
