Pi Kappa Alpha’s Fight Night is tomorrow – and this year the ring girls are back.

Boxers from various fraternities and local clubs will rumble at 7 p.m. Friday at the Thunderdome. PIKE is hosting the popular match after a one-year hiatus due to a university-imposed suspension for various risk management violations.

Additionally, various campus women’s groups lobbied to have the popular ring girls – sorority sisters who perform choreographed dances between bouts – excluded last year, arguing that their suggestive routines associate the violence of boxing with sex.

Fight Night Coordinator Tyler Stauss said this year the UCSB dance team, the African American dance group Black Rain and the ring girls, who will don more modest outfits, will all perform.

“The girls will look formal in dresses,” Stauss said. “We’re making it classier than usual to help improve the image of the event.”

Tickets – ringside costs $15, general admission costs $10 – for the charity event, which is expected to raise over $25,000 for the Say Yes to Kids Foundation at Primo Boxing Club, Inc., can be purchased at the A.S. Ticket Office, PIKE’s fraternity house, in the Arbor and at the doors, which open at 5:30 p.m.
