Editor, Daily Nexus,

Well, I just experienced my first Halloween ever in Isla Vista and let me tell you, it was unbelievable. I could not believe the sheer amount of people parading around in their costumes, or lack of costumes in some instances, on Del Playa. It was great to see everyone having fun while keeping safe.

Unfortunately, I was witness to a fight as I was walking home. What was interesting about this fight was what was being fought over, because it was not a case of “You looked at my girl and now I’m gonna kick your ass,” or “You touched my ass now I’m gonna kick yours.” It was over a friggin’ costume and near the 6800 block of DP where students rarely venture. A guy wearing a Pink Panther costume was mistakenly identified as a pig and instead of shrugging it off, he went ahead and resorted to high school name-calling. This escalated into the two parties getting into each other’s faces and Pink Panther eating concrete.

The moral of the story boys and girls is this: No one wins in fights because they will always come back to haunt you. The same kid who taunted you when you were little will turn in to the same bastard who taunts you when you are in college. This is to all the wannabe thugs: Develop a thick skin and go on with your life because if worse did actually come to worse, the fight might be bad enough to give new meaning to the phrase “Life is short.”
