The UCSB women’s club soccer team dominated the majority of its game against San Diego State before giving up two goals in the last three minutes to force a 2-2 tie in a heartbreaking finish.

The game, which took place on Saturday in San Diego, will not affect the team’s upcoming trip to Nationals in any way.

Captain Lindsay Lack received a mild concussion before the lead crept away, and she was forced to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines.

“I don’t remember much of it because I couldn’t tell what was going on at the time,” Lack said.

Confusion and disappointment are sentiments that are shared by a team that saw everything go wrong in such a short amount of time.

“Not the way you want to go into a national championship,” Head Coach Todd Heil said.

The team secured its upcoming national championship spot last week with its second-place finish at the regional championship.

The Gauchos ran into trouble late in the game Saturday when San Diego State scored on two corner kicks and came out with a tie.

“They’re the type of team that doesn’t give up,” Heil said.

UCSB has two games remaining before it heads off to the national championship.

“We’re going to treat them as normal games … [and] work on chemistry between the players that will be out there for the nationals,” Heil
said.

UCSB will learn who its upcoming opponent at the national championship will be by Wednesday, when the pairings for the opening round of the
tournament will be announced.

Heil has no way of knowing which team he will face in the tournament, but he does have an idea of who we will not see lined up against the
Gauchos for a while.

“They keep you away from teams in your region at the beginning, so we won’t likely face Cal again, at least until later on in the tournament,” Heil said.
