On Sunday, April 25, 2004, one of the largest public demonstrations in support of reproductive freedom in history will take place in Washington, D.C. The seven leading national women’s rights groups have come together to organize the March for Women’s Lives, which will unite women and men from across the United States to fight for reproductive freedom. We will march to help ensure that all people have the ability to make personal decisions about their sexuality, their reproductive health and their family size.

Since taking office, the Bush administration has launched an assault on reproductive rights in the U.S. and around the world. Enacting two dangerous pieces of legislation – the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act and the Unborn Victims of Violence Act – in just the last six months, Bush is systematically chipping away at Roe v. Wade. This important Supreme Court decision ensures access to safe legal abortions in the U.S. The March for Women’s Lives will show Congress, the president and other elected officials that their vicious assault on women’s health and on access to safe, legal abortion is opposed by a strong, united majority of Americans.

The UCSB chapter of Voices for Planned Parenthood (VOX) will be participating in this historic event. For the last six months, we have been planning on attending the March for Women’s Lives, and, through several generous donations, seven members of our organization will be representing UCSB in Washington, D.C. In addition to VOX, several other campus organizations are sending members, including California Pro-Choice Students, Students Stopping Rape, Mujeres Unidas por Juisticia Educaci
