Isla Vista motorists can blow off some steam at tonight’s meeting of the Project Area Committee/ General Plan Advisory Committee (PAC/GPAC).
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Linda Vista Room at Francisco Torres Residence Hall and will focus on the proposed I.V. residential parking permit program and downtown meter program. There will be a presentation on the proposal followed by questions and commentary from the PAC/GPAC and members of the public.
The proposed plan would occur in two phases. The first phase would include parking meters in the commercial district and a residential parking permit program for the rest of I.V. The second phase would allow for any necessary modifications and possibly the inclusion of alternative transportation systems.
Parking meters would be installed on Embarcadero Loop and on adjoining sections of Pardall, Madrid, Seville and Trigo Roads. Each meter would have a 45-minute maximum and there would be selected “green” zones for 15-minute free parking.
The residential permit program would divide I.V. into two zones. Zone A would consist of the area east of Camino Corto except the commercial area, and zone B would consist of the single-family zone west of Camino Corto. In zone A, one hour of free parking would be permitted between Camino Corto and Camino Pescadero. There would be no free timed parking in zone B.
Annual residential parking permits would be available to I.V. residents, merchants and companies that service the community. A price has not been set for the annual permit, but lower-income residents on public assistance would be able to get the permit at a lower rate.
Each resident would also be able to purchase one-day guest permits for visitors. The first 15 permits would cost $3 apiece. Each additional guest permit would cost $7.
The two southern blocks of Camino Majorca would be designated as coastal access and would not be included in zone B. There would be approximately 65 parking spaces available from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a four-hour maximum. No overnight parking would be allowed in this area.
