An unidentified man was hit by a car while attempting to diagonally cross the street from the corner of Abrego Road and Camino Pescadero.

The accident happened Friday around 8:20 p.m. The Isla Vista Foot Patrol received a call reporting the accident, and CHP officers, who were at the IVFP station at the time of the call, were the first to arrive at the scene on bicycles. CHP could not be contacted for the names of either the victim or the driver.

CHP officer David Nees, the first officer to arrive at the scene, said the man suffered severe head injuries and a compound fracture to his right leg. He was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Nees said. His current condition is unknown because his name has not been released.

According to Nees, the driver of the car was not intoxicated and was not driving excessively fast.
