This year brought with it a new phenomenon: dining commons assignments.

The first time I ate fried chicken in the dorms I found a feather. And then there was the worm in the potato. It only got worse from there.

Students in the dorms used to have the illusion of choice. They could eat at Ortega, DLG or Carillo. But we all know that’s an illusion.

Assigned reading means “you have to read this.” Assigned homework means “you have to write this.”

So, basically assigning dining commons is the same as saying, “you have to eat this.”

And that’s really what it boils down to, now isn’t it?

Tuesday’s forecast: Cap’n Crunch.
