Jacqueline High, a 56-year-old woman, was found dead at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at Diamonds and Rust Bijoux Etc., a thrift shop on Haley Street in downtown Santa Barbara.

The Santa Barbara Police Dept. is investigating the incident as a homicide.

Police Lt. Michael Aspland said a customer found the victim when they entered the store around 12:30, and called 9-1-1. Paramedics responded and confirmed that High was deceased. Aspland said police have made no arrests and are releasing no information that could affect the investigation.

“The tough part is that because there are no suspects in custody, we’re really not releasing any information,” he said. “We’re not confirming or denying anything. The goal is to try and get some significant leads wrapped up before we let folks know anything.”

The department’s Investigative Division is conducting the follow-up investigation, and is requesting that anyone who was in the area of the business within 24 hours of the crime who saw any suspicious activity contact Sergeant Mike McGrew at 897-2300.
