Editor, Daily Nexus,

The column, “Building on Home Plate,” by Brian Hampton (Oct. 24) failed to address the grave housing situation facing graduate students. Did you know that many graduate students (especially TAs) have to pay more than half their monthly salary in order to afford housing in the community? In addition, international students have a particularly difficult time finding housing because of their lack of a credit history and rental record. First-year graduate students often spend their first few weeks of the quarter in a desperate and harrowing search for housing.

While I empathize with the need for open spaces for sports and recreation, your argument would have been far more convincing had you provided your ideas for a viable alternative location of a graduate student housing complex.
