Editor, Daily Nexus,

I just finished reading the Oct. 1 Opinion column about cults by Sarah Kent (“An Invitation to Join May Become an Initiation to the Cult”), and I must say that I am utterly speechless! This article is pure genius; it says everything that I’ve always wanted to say on this matter but have never been able to for fear of my life. I came from a small town outside of San Diego; a conservative, religiously fundamentalist place where being an atheist, agnostic or secular humanist is totally unacceptable. I always held my tongue because I had religious friends and I didn’t want people picturing me with horns and a pitchfork, and I am impressed that this Opinion editor had the guts to make a very important point that needs to be made. Don’t get me wrong, I respect the religious and their beliefs. I just wish that my beliefs would get the same treatment. I wish morality wouldn’t always be equated with religion; they are not one and the same. This article hit the nail right on the head, and I wanted to say, “Amen, sister!”
