A 19-year-old UC Santa Barbara student died on June 6, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Shengyu “Jin” Jin was a second-year physics major in the College of Letters and Science, according to the UCSB Office of Student Life (OSL). Jin was an international student.

His death is the result of a suicide, according to Kelly Hoover, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) spokesperson.

Jin was initially found unresponsive in his vehicle in the 900 block of La Patera Lane in Goleta on June 4, Hoover said in an email.

Paramedics, law enforcement and fire personnel responded and “removed Jin from the vehicle.”

He was transported to the hospital and remained on life support “for several days for organ donation” before passing away on June 6, Hoover said in an email.
