A UC Santa Barbara alumnus died Sunday after falling from an Isla Vista balcony, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Kenneth Yun, 22, was attempting to sit on the railing of a second story balcony on the 800 block of Embarcadero Del Norte when he fell backward at approximately 1:30 a.m., friends who were present at the time told police.

He then fatally struck his head on the asphalt parking lot below, police said.

According to a police report, emergency personnel transported Yun to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for surgery related to head trauma and internal injuries. He succumbed to his injuries just after 8 a.m., police said.

The coroner’s office is conducting an investigation to determine the official cause and manner of Yun’s death. A final decision is pending toxicology and lab results, police said.

Yun had been living in San Francisco and working in the engineering field, his family told police.
