The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 19-year-old Isla Vista resident on a misdemeanor charge related to child sexual abuse material on Jan. 8. According to the sheriff’s office, the individual has since been released.

Levi Crabtree was arrested for charges related to the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, according to a press release from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO). The investigation began roughly a month earlier on Dec. 5, after detectives received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Detectives identified Crabtree and served search and arrest warrants, eventually taking him into custody and booking him at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail. He was released later that same day on a $10,oo0 bail, according to the arrest log.

The Nexus was unable to immediately confirm with the University if he is a student at UC Santa Barbara. Crabtree’s occupation is labeled as “student” in the arrest log, and there is an active UCSB student profile under the name “Levi Crabtree.”

The SBSO press release stated there is no information at this time indicating local victims. It also encouraged anyone with information related to the case to contact sheriff’s detectives at 805-681-4150 or 805-681-4171 and SBSheriff.org if you’d prefer to remain anonymous.
