According to the 805 Immigrant Coalition, several Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicles have been spotted in the lower west area of Santa Barbara this morning.
Initial sightings of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) vehicles began at approximately 6:50 a.m., according to the coalition. An unmarked vehicle was seen on Montecito Street near Santa Cruz Market, as well as on Castillo Street. One video recorded and posted on @805immigrantcoalition on Instagram included a white Chevrolet Tahoe parked on the side of the road, with the caption stating that Santa Barbara County is a “point of target” for I.C.E. agents today. Another video showed the same vehicle stopping near the Santa Cruz Market on Montecito Street, in which a masked I.C.E. agent was seen exiting the vehicle.
805 Immigrant Coalition is based in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. According to its website, the organization aims to protect and advocate for immigrant communities.
Another I.C.E. vehicle was spotted in the area at 6:50 a.m. at a private residence on Rancheria Street. A video shows an I.C.E. agent chasing one man, “illegally trespassing on private property.” It is unconfirmed whether the man was detained.
According to another video posted about a sighting around 7:00 a.m., a gray Dodge Caravan was spotted on Wentworth Avenue and Coronel Place. According to the 805 Immigrant Coalition’s Instagram, this vehicle “has traveled in Ventura County and Santa Barbara [C]ounty and has been present at multiple kidnapping sites.”
