Yesterday, on June 2, the UC Santa Barbara Police Department responded to a report of arson where a group of people was seen lighting a scooter on fire. The incident occurred in Parking Lot 6, near the Santa Cruz Residence Hall.

This is the second report of arson in this area within the last month, according to a Timely Warning sent to students and faculty on June 3 at 2:33 p.m. On May 14, the UCSB Police Department (UCPD) responded to a report of arson on Lagoon Road at Channel Islands Road, where a group of people was seen “lighting [C]heerios on fire with an accelerant.” 

In the same email, the UCPD advises calling 911 to report an active fire. They also urged individuals to report extinguished fires or suspicious activity by calling the UCPD at 805-893-3446.

The UCPD is currently investigating the crime. The Nexus will continue reporting on this issue as more information becomes available.
