The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a structure fire on 6641 Abrego Road on Tuesday morning at 3:10 a.m. The house burned to its scaffolding later that morning.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department originally responded with a one-alarm response, which is a fire department’s basic response to any fire incident. Upon arriving at the scene, the fire department upgraded their response to a second alarm, which requires more manpower and resources. The fire department had one engine come in from the City of Santa Barbara to assist them.

The firefighters couldn’t get too close to the house because of the heat and severity of the fire and operated with a “defensive strategy,” according to the county fire department’s recorded news line.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
