The Isla Vista Tenants Union recently decided to boycott local smoke shop and clothing retailer Fuzion Glass Gallery, after the State Street business was listed as a sponsor of the popular 2014 Deltopia Facebook page.
According to IVTU board member Pita Lee, the Deltopia event page functioned as an open invitation to thousands of out-of-town attendees, leading to increased havoc during the unsanctioned street event.
Lee said that Fuzion Glass was “highly responsible” for creating the Deltopia Facebook page and that organized action against the company would discourage other vendors from supporting events like last month’s Deltopia.
“The Isla Vista Tenants Union has taken initiative in boycotting Fuzion Glass Gallery and would like for all tenants to cease from doing business with them,” Lee said in an email. “IVTU proposes that any future companies that try to harm our home will surely face consequences.”
In an email to local TV news outlet KEYT, Fuzion Glass owner Peter Robinson denied that the business participated in hosting any part of Deltopia.
“Our company was approached by artists planning to perform in Isla Vista for Deltopia. We were listed on a Facebook page as a ‘host’/sponsor,” Robinson said in the email to KEYT. “Days before the event, it became clear this would not be possible and we severed any potential sponsorship plans.”
Sounds like the Tenants Union is simply a group with thuggish behavior. I don’t support this type of boycott and don’t particularly care for people who urge them to happen.
