Santa Barbara Regional Narcotic Enforcement Team Agents seized 156 grams of cocaine, 49 tablets of MDMA (ecstasy) and 40 pills of an unidentified drug last weekend, according to a SBRNET press release.
The two perpetrators, 21-year-old Isla Vista resident and college student Dalton Turney and 21-year-old Razel Tarantino, were arrested on drug and conspiracy charges. Turney was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail and had his bail set at $300,000 and Tarantino’s bail was set at $20,000. SBRNET Agents suspect the drugs were meant to be sold to local students and residents.
The drug bust was made on the same day 22-year-old UCSB student Brandon Schmidt was found dead on the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive. The cause of death is under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and will not be determined until toxicology reports are completed in four to six weeks, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover said.
