The UCSB men’s basketball team will hit the road for a four-game road trip, beginning with a game at UC Davis on Thursday night followed up by a game at Pacific on Saturday. The Gauchos (9-7 overall, 4-2 Big West) will look to rebound from a tough loss at home to first place Long Beach State (14-6, 7-0) on Saturday.

Overall, Santa Barbara plays seven of its next eight games on the road. The Gauchos’ lone home game over that span is against UC Riverside (10-9, 4-2) on Feb. 11. UCSB remains tied in second place in the Big West with Cal State Fullerton (12-6, 4-2) and Riverside.

Prior to the loss to Long Beach, the Gauchos had won three consecutive home games. UCSB has not fared as well on the road, where it is 2-4 this season. Three of the team’s four road losses came in nonconference games, against formidable opponents Washington, Cal, and BYU. Santa Barbara’s latest road loss came at UC Riverside on Jan. 12, where the Gauchos lost a heartbreaker 79-70 in overtime.

Senior standouts Orlando Johnson and James Nunnally continue to produce for the Gauchos this season.

Despite off games for the prolific scoring duo against CSULB on Saturday (Johnson shot a season low shooting percentage, and Nunnally has a season low five points), Johnson leads the Big West with 19.6 points per game on the season, and Nunnally ranks seventh with 15.4 points per game.

In last Thursday’s game against Cal State Northridge, Johnson became the fifth Gaucho ever to score over 1,500 career points. He is currently on pace to threaten the school’s record for career points of 1,696, held by Alex Harris.

Nunnally currently sits in sixth place on the Gauchos’ all-time scoring list, one spot behind Johnson. Nunnally has 1,436 career points and is currently on pace to become the sixth player in UCSB history to 1,500.

UCSB currently ranks No. 1 in the Big West with 95 blocks, an average of 5.9 per game. Senior center Greg Somogyi, who now ranks No. 2 in Gaucho history, leads the way with 30 blocks on the season. Freshman center Alan “Big Al” Williams is second on the team with 21 on the season. Somogyi has played arguably his best two games of the season in the team’s past two games. The 7’3” center posted a season-high 10 points in the win over Northridge, and a season-high 10 rebounds in the loss to Long Beach.
