The Isla Vista Foot Patrol had their hands full this weekend, issuing a total of 75 citations Friday and Saturday.

As is often the case, alcohol related crimes — most notably minor in possession and drunk in public — made up the bulk of the citations, according to Lt. Brian Olmstead of the IVFP. There were, however, several cases involving drug possession and one instance of domestic disturbance.

According to Olmstead, the hefty number of citations is not surprising given that the Foot Patrol typically beefs up their enforcement during the first few weeks of the school year.

“Right now it is [typical],” Olmstead said. “At the beginning of the year, some crime is spontaneous when alcohol is involved. You have the possibility of this type of thing happening. It has been consistent.”

Olmstead said that there was a report of a knife brandishing on Friday near Embarcadero del Mar and Segovia Road. Police have yet to identify the culprit.

A sexual assault was also reported on Friday. Since the incident is currently under investigation, further information could not be released.

On Saturday, a strong-arm robbery was reported on the 6700 block of Sabado Tarde Road. The assailant punched a woman, stole her purse and escaped in a vehicle. Deputies have yet to catch the culprit.
