I’d like to commend the Daily Nexus on its informative coverage and opinion pieces regarding Prop 8. I would also like to add an important viewpoint that seems to be overlooked.

Supporters of Prop 8 suggest marriage equality is part of a gay agenda being pushed by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community onto Californians; this is simply not the case. The passage of Prop 8 takes away a fundamental right from a minority group that already exists.

What if legal immigrants were told that they were no longer citizens because that is what 52 percent of Californians wanted? This would be the same thing. Minority groups have been struggling since the beginning of time to gain equality, and it’s disheartening to see our state take this giant step in the wrong direction because of religious bigotry and the Mormon church’s ability to raise funds and sway votes.
