Editor, Daily Nexus,

I am writing in support of Carly Jo Hann’s article endorsing Prop. 2 (“Proposition 2: Protect That Which You Eat,” Daily Nexus, Oct. 7). Hann clearly explains the central goal of the measure: to reduce suffering for farm-raised animals. Prop. 2 would mandate modest, common sense reform that would allow the animals we eat to be allowed basic movement within their enclosures.

But voting yes on Prop. 2 also has benefits beyond animal welfare. It will also decrease the amount of synthetic chemicals needed in meat production. The effect of this is two-fold: fewer toxins in the environment and less toxicity in your food. That’s why it’s endorsed by the Sierra Club, the Center for Food Safety and many other organizations, scientists, religious leaders, veterinarians and farmers.
