Editor, Daily Nexus,
I am a UCSB graduate, class of 1971. And I stayed here. I have lived my entire adult life in Isla Vista, Goleta, and the Santa Ynez Valley (the 3rd District). I personally know Doreen Farr, Steve Pappas, Gail Marshall, Brooks Firestone, Bill Wallace and many of the other people who set policy in Isla Vista.
I have seen them all in action, and I have the best interests of Isla Visa and students at heart. My plea is that you support Doreen Farr and do not fall prey to the Steve Pappas hype. Mr. Pappas is a one-issue candidate who burst upon the scene to protect Los Olivos from threats both real and imaginary. That is a good thing, but Steve Pappas becomes less and less engaged as you move further away from the Santa Ynez Valley.
Doreen Farr has a broad perspective and has been involved in the community for many years and in many issues. She has the endorsement of the local Sierra Club and all the major environmental leaders. She is also endorsed by previous supervisors Gail Marshall and Bill Wallace, people who always stood up for UCSB students and Isla Vista on issues such as housing, sidewalks, streetlights and safety.
The balance of power in the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors has always resided in the 3rd District, and the balance of power in the 3rd District has always resided in Isla Vista. I urge you to support Doreen Farr on Nov. 4. She is the candidate with the best background and the best resources to support Isla Vista and the entire 3rd District.
