Measure V would generate $77.2 million for Santa Barbara City College, in addition to possibly snagging the school another $92 million in state matching funds. The measure would be used to revamp deteriorating buildings and update obsolete computers and lab equipment, among other necessary improvements. Additionally, this money is prohibited from being put toward teacher or administrator salaries, so we can be sure the funds will only go toward refurbishing the school. SBCC is a great asset to the county, not only preparing students for four-year universities, but also providing adult education classes and college courses for ambitious high school students. Should the measure pass, taxpayers will pay approximately $35 more per year on property taxes. However, both Democrats and Republicans have endorsed this measure strongly across the board.

The Daily Nexus strongly endorses Measure V.
