UCSB student Carlyn Lovell McDonald Jr. was arrested for allegedly exposing his genitals to a female faculty member last Thursday in the Student Resource Building.

According to a University of California Police Department press release, McDonald scheduled an appointment with a female academic advisor to receive assistance filling out graduate school applications, however, the meeting took an abrupt change when the student unexpectedly exposed his penis.

The faculty member then ordered McDonald to return his penis to his pants and leave the facility. Although he complied, McDonald was later arrested and booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail on May 19, 2007 at noon after UCSB Police obtained a warrant for his arrest.

UCPD Public Information Officer Matt Bowman said cases of genital exposure are not handled lightly and that such acts can precede future and more severe offenses.

“UCPD takes any incident of indecent exposure very seriously,” Bowman said. “It is often a sign that there is more going on than just exposure. It is usually just the first sign some one will potentially act much worse.”

Associate Vice Chancellor of Judicial Affairs Joe Navarro said the university was also taking action against McDonald in conjunction with the faculty member. Navarro refused further commentary.

UCPD requested that any similar behavior by McDonald be reported to authorities at (805) 893-3446. Callers may choose to remain anonymous.
