Three suspects are in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail after being charged with seven different offenses stemming from an attempted robbery Sunday night in Isla Vista.
Deputies from the Isla Vista Foot Patrol apprehended 19-year-old Janicio Pizano, 20-year-old Daniel Yepez and 21-year-old Jesse Marquez at approximately 9:46 p.m. on April 16. According to a press release from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dept., the three men were wearing ski masks when they broke into a residence on the 6800 block of Sabado Tarde Road and allegedly threatened the residents with knives and a .25 caliber handgun. The robbers then allegedly demanded that the home’s inhabitants give them money and marijuana, the press release stated.
The residents called the IVFP during the robbery, and when officers arrived at the scene, they stationed themselves at each of the home’s exits. As the robbers tried to leave the scene of the crime, deputies surrounded them in the building’s garage and arrested them without incident. The men were booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of robbery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, burglary, conspiracy, wearing a mask during the commission of a public offense and participation in a criminal street gang.
Bail for the three suspects was initially set at $100,000, but, according to the press release, the Sheriff’s Dept. requested that the bail be raised to $500,000.
