Editor, Daily Nexus,

Nina Love Anthony’s article, (“Bask in Porno’s Pleasures,” Daily Nexus, Jan. 25) is a sad example of how unaware she is of the destructive effects that pornography has on our society and on individual lives. There is no such thing as good pornography.

Matt Smith, from MTV’s “The Gauntlet” and “The Real World: New Orleans” states that “you can not simultaneously objectify and dignify women” on his Porn Destroys Women website, porndestroyswomen.org. Not that Matt Smith is an expert, but let the statistics from research case studies noted on his website speak the truth about pornography.

Here are just a few:

“In the United States alone, porn revenue is larger than all combined revenues of all professional football, baseball and basketball franchises. U.S. porn revenue exceeds the combined revenues of ABC, CBS and NBC (6.2 billion). Child pornography generates $3 billion annually”

“Regular users of pornography are more likely to have sexually callous attitudes and accept the rape myth (that when a woman says ‘no,’ she means ‘yes.’)”

“Regular users of pornography have increasingly hostile and aggressive sexual fantasies.”

“Regular users of pornography are less likely to convict [someone] for a rape and less likely to give a harsh sentence to a rapist if in fact convicted. Conversely, individuals who do not use pornography are more likely to convict an accused rapist.”

Aside from victimizing women and children, viewing porn also hurts the individual viewing the pornography as it promotes lies such as: There are no consequences to sexual promiscuity. You can live a healthy life with the porn images floating around in your mind. Porn doesn’t harm anyone. The porn stars are the happiest people on earth. Porn will help your sex life.

Let’s face it. Porn Sucks!
